For more than twenty years, the foundation of Peer Christensen's work has been almost exclusively the medium of oil paint. The classical technique of building up successive transparent layers of paint yeilded the luminosity that characterized the work of the Old Masters and that defines Christensen's style.

Christensen applies this technique effectively to his subject matters that range from commonplace objects to urban and industrial landscapes. This method is equally successful in his floral studies, still lifes and atmospheric night paintings.

The artist was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, moved to Canada in 1959 and has lived in Peterborough since 1985. Christensen is self taught in drawing and watercolour, and studied oil painting at the University of Victoria and privately with Anthonly Thorn.
