Client Profile: Steven Ishiwara & Brad Crafton, Above the Bed

It was an exceptionally busy Festival of Smalls opening, with tonnes of little works finding new homes. Curious to see examples of smalls groupings in private spaces, I asked our fabulous web designer, and client, Steven Ishiwara to send us a picture of his recent acquisitions. In their bedroom, Steven and Brad grouped six of Greg Shegler's bold dollar bill works, creating a dramatic wall in a minimal space.

For quite a while now we have been looking for some art to hang above our bed. The wall is about 15 feet long and the bed is a king size, so we needed to fill the space with a large piece or multiple small pieces. We came across this series at Art Interiors and we thought it would be perfect. The questions was, should we get four or six pieces? We decided on six and we are quite happy with how it turned out. Because the wall is so large, the busyness of the pieces aren't too much for the room.
What we like about Sheglers smalls is that they are true Canadian kitsch, taking the classic imagery of Canadian 1 and 2 dollar bills and melding it with pop culture references, both local and international. We enjoy the small details like the Friendly Giant, Barbapapa, and of course, who doesn't like Michael Jackson and E.T.? We like art that sparks conversation, and these pieces definitely do.
